What Is a Therapy Intensive?

Therapy intensives are extended, personalized sessions that offer more time to explore what may feel difficult to fully access in weekly therapy.

They aren't a replacement for weekly therapy or a "better" way to do therapy. They're simply a different format that offers extended, uninterrupted time for focused therapeutic work when it feels like the right fit.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship patterns, a life transition, or a specific experience you'd like to focus on, an intensive allows us slow down, stay with what's emerging, and move at a depth that supports meaningful insight, nervous system regulation, and lasting integration.

When a Therapy Intensive May Be the Right Fit

Sometimes weekly therapy is exactly what's needed. Other times, having more uninterrupted time can create space to stay with what is emerging without feeling like you have to pause just as something important begins to unfold.

A therapy intensive may be a good fit if:

You're feeling stuck in familiar patterns.
You find yourself returning to the same anxiety, self-doubt, relationship dynamics, or emotional overwhelm despite understanding where they come from and wanting something to shift.

You're moving through a significant life transition.
Whether you're navigating a career change, relationship changes, parenthood, grief, or another major transition, an intensive can provide dedicated time to process your experience with intention and support.

You've done therapy before but want more focused time.
You may already have insight into your patterns and still find yourself wanting more uninterrupted space to explore what's beneath them than weekly therapy can sometimes provide.

You want support around a specific experience or decision.
Perhaps you're preparing for an important conversation, processing a difficult event, or facing a decision that feels emotionally significant. A therapy intensive allows us to slow down and thoughtfully work through what's coming up.

Your schedule makes weekly therapy difficult.
If you travel frequently, live outside my local area, or simply find it challenging to attend regular weekly sessions, a therapy intensive offers another way to engage in meaningful therapeutic work.

You're longing for space that's devoted entirely to you.
Life often asks us to move quickly from one responsibility to the next. An intensive creates intentional space to step out of the demands of daily life, reconnect with yourself, and give your inner experience the attention it deserves.

If you're wondering whether a therapy intensive is the right fit for your current season, I'd be happy to help you think it through.

What We Can Focus On During a Therapy Intensive

Every therapy intensive is personalized to your unique goals, experiences, and needs. While no two intensives look exactly alike, they can provide dedicated space to explore concerns such as:

Finding More Ease Within Yourself

Anxiety & Emotional Overwhelm
When your mind feels constantly busy, your body stays on high alert, or it feels difficult to slow down and find steadiness.

Burnout & Emotional Exhaustion
When you've been carrying too much for too long and are longing to reconnect with yourself beneath the demands of daily life.

Self-Esteem & Self-Worth
Explore the beliefs and experiences that shape how you see yourself, relate to others, and move through the world.

Emotional Disconnection
Reconnect with your emotions, your body, and the parts of yourself that may have been pushed aside in the process of getting through life.

Understanding Longstanding Patterns

Relationship Patterns
Explore recurring dynamics in your relationships and develop greater awareness, flexibility, and choice in how you relate to yourself and others.

People-Pleasing & Overfunctioning
Understand the patterns that once helped you preserve connection or safety and begin creating space for more authentic ways of showing up.

Perfectionism
Move beyond the pressure to constantly perform, achieve, or get everything right, and cultivate a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Childhood Experiences
Gently explore how early experiences continue to influence your relationships, nervous system, and sense of self today.

Navigating Change & Moving Forward

Life Transitions
Whether you're navigating a career change, parenthood, a relationship shift, or another season of uncertainty, an intensive offers space to process it with intention.

Feeling Stuck
When you know something needs to change but find yourself returning to familiar patterns despite your best efforts.

Difficult Decisions
Create space to untangle competing thoughts, emotions, and needs so you can move forward with greater clarity and self-trust.

Grief & Loss
Process the many forms grief can take—from the loss of a loved one to the loss of a relationship, identity, or hoped-for future.

An Approach Tailored to You

Each intensive is thoughtfully designed around what feels most important to you, creating space to explore your concerns at a pace that feels supportive and intentional.

My approach integrates somatic therapy, attachment-focused work, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and mindfulness to help you better understand both your inner experience and the patterns that have shaped it.

Together, we'll explore not only what's happening in your thoughts, but also how your nervous system, relationships, and life experiences continue to influence the way you relate to yourself and others.

Throughout the intensive, we'll balance insight with practical integration so that what emerges during our time together can continue to support you long after the session ends. Rather than following a predetermined formula, I adapt each therapy intensive to meet your unique needs, creating an experience that is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in your goals.

What to Expect During a Therapy Intensive

01

Consultation & Planning

We'll begin with a consultation to determine whether a therapy intensive is the right fit for your needs. If we decide to move forward, we'll identify what you'd like to focus on and create a plan that feels supportive and intentional.

02

Personalized Intention Setting

Before your intensive, you'll have an opportunity to reflect on what feels most important. Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship patterns, a life transition, or another area of focus, we'll begin with a shared understanding of your goals for our time together.

05

An Experiential, Whole-Person Approach

Our work may include conversation, reflection, mindfulness, gentle somatic practices, and nervous system awareness, depending on what feels most supportive for you. Rather than following a predetermined process, I adapt each therapy intensive to meet your unique needs.

03

Extended Therapy Sessions

Unlike weekly therapy, a therapy intensive provides uninterrupted time to slow down, stay with your experience, and explore what's emerging without feeling rushed. We'll move at a pace that supports curiosity, reflection, and meaningful exploration.

06

Reflection & Integration

As we come to a close, we'll make space to reflect on what emerged, identify what feels most meaningful, and discuss ways to continue integrating what you've discovered into your daily life.

04

Time to Pause & Reset

Breaks are intentionally built into longer therapy intensives, giving you space to rest, move your body, have a snack, or simply take a breath before returning to our work together.

07

Continued Support

Depending on your needs, we may schedule a follow-up therapy session to check in, continue integrating the work we've begun, and discuss what ongoing support might look like moving forward.

Therapy Intensive Options

Whether you're looking for a little more time than a traditional therapy session or a more immersive experience, therapy intensives are designed to provide dedicated space for focused, personalized work.

You don't have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. If you're curious about therapy intensives, we can talk through your goals and determine together whether this format feels like the right fit.
